Architectural Lighting System

Canopy

Situated on Robson Square Plaza (800 Robson) in front of the Art Gallery, “Canopy” aims to bring light and inspiration to the darker days of the year. Comprising nearly 3,000 controllable lights suspended above the street, the installation serves as a beacon of warmth and wonder. Drawing from the natural world, the lights are programmed to emulate the mesmerizing movement of salmon swimming upstream and the awe-inspiring spectacle of the aurora borealis. While the installation is technologically advanced, its primary goal is to echo the beauty of these natural phenomena, offering a moment of pause and reflection for passersby. The dynamic nature of the lights allows for adaptability to different events, seasons, and times of day, inviting the community to engage with Canopy in various ways. In essence, Canopy aims to be a luminous focal point that brightens the area and lifts spirits, blending technology and nature to create a unique, interactive experience.
